Find a Tender · Contracts Finder

Two portals publish every UK public contract. Almost none of them are yours.

The bureau drives Find a Tender and Contracts Finder through their own search — across 45 industry codes, 17 UK regions and nine filter fields — then reads every notice it brings back against your company and scores whether you could win it.

The size of it

The money is public. Finding your share of it is the work.

£300bn+

spent a year

UK public bodies — councils, NHS trusts, academy trusts, housing associations, police forces, universities — buy goods and services on this scale every year, and every pound of it is published as a notice before it is spent.
Under £100k

where most of it sits

By value the headlines go to the £100m frameworks. By volume, most contracts are small enough that a regional firm can deliver them — which is exactly the band that gets lost in the feed.
21%

reaches SMEs directly

Direct public sector spend with SMEs hit £45.2bn in 2025, a six-year high. The average hides the useful part: the share swings from 33% in some categories to 3% in others.

Where the notices come from

Two sources, and only one of them is current.

Since February 2025 these are not two equivalent feeds, and a supplier who treats them as one will miss things. The bureau states which is which rather than claiming full coverage from both.

Public Contracts Scotland and Sell2Wales are not sources. Scottish below-threshold work published only on PCS will not appear, and neither will Welsh notices that never reach Find a Tender. If Scotland below threshold is your market, this is a gap you should know about before you pay for anything.

What a run actually returns

A search set on notice type will run in full against Find a Tender and run without that field against Contracts Finder. The run tells you which fields it had to ignore on which portal, so you know how wide the net really was rather than assuming it was narrower than it was.

Goods and services covered

112 trades, named the way you’d name them.

Not “environmental remediation solutions”. Asbestos removal. Type what you actually do and see whether it is in here — the twelve sectors below map onto the CPV divisions the scraper filters on, so what you find named is what a run can go and get.

What actually happens

Five steps, and it tells you where each one stopped.

  1. 01

    Drive the portals

A real browser drives each portal's own search, so what comes back is what the portal returns — no undocumented API, no stale mirror. Notices are chunked, embedded locally and stored in a corpus that belongs to your account alone.

  2. 02

    Match on two axes

Your profile splits in two. Overview and disciplines answer relevance — is this our kind of work? Past projects answer track record — could we credibly bid it? They are scored separately, because wanting the work and having done it are different questions and a tool that averages them tells you neither.

  3. 03

    Assess each tender

Every shortlisted notice gets a structured bid assessment: a win likelihood out of 100, a confidence, a one-line verdict and a pursue / consider / decline call — with the location, cost, resourcing, competition and timeline factors that drove it, plus the risks and the gaps in your evidence.

  4. 04

    Rank them against each other

Scores from independent assessments are not comparable — an 80 from one call is not reliably better than a 75 from another. A second pass reads the whole set at once and produces a calibrated ranking, a top pick and cross-tender portfolio notes.

  5. 05

    File the report

Six sections, one model: cover and verdict, the ranked table, per-lead detail, the score distribution, the unassessed with reasons, and the session's scrape log. Preview it in the browser, download .docx or PDF, or have it emailed when the run finishes.

Where an SME can realistically win

The average share is 21%. The average is the least useful number here.

Direct public sector spend with SMEs reached £45.2bn in 2025, a six-year high, with local government the largest SME spender at £29.1bn. But it is not spread evenly, and the unevenness is the part worth acting on.

Education, training and recruitment33%

Defence and aerospace3%

An eleven-fold difference between two categories on the same portals. Knowing which side of that you sit on changes which notices are worth three days of bid time — and it is the sort of thing you learn from award history, which is exactly what the Contracts Finder archive is good for.

The two suitability flags

Buyers mark notices as suitable for SMEs and for VCSEs, and both are filter fields on each portal. Setting them narrows a run to the work a buyer has already decided a smaller supplier can deliver — which is a far better first cut than value or region.

What it costs

You pay for the model calls. Everything else is included.

Driving the portals, building your corpus, searching it and rendering the report cost the bureau compute rather than model calls, so they are not metered. Every run is quoted before it starts and reconciled to what it actually cost.
